The continuing Russian invasion of Ukraine has confirmed how convoluted our current energy policy is and how important that we quickly re-think it. Exhibit 1: As of March 31, there are 17 Russian oil tankers heading for US, due to our leadership’s incompetence to secure enough oil for our own domestic needs. In 2021, we imported 3% of our oil from Russia, the most in 10 years. Exhibit 2: The administration just announced their intention of releasing 1 million barrels per day of crude from the Strategic Oil Reserve (SOR). We’re told this action is designed to lower gas prices. What’s not said, is the SOR is very low on the specific type of oil that is used to refine into gasoline and, worst yet our domestic refineries are operating at 95% of their full capacity already. And finally, 1 million barrels/day represents 5% of daily needs. This is a meaningless political gesture! The administration also disclosed they wouldn’t be replacing the oil until the price come down. Are you kidding me!

We need an orderly and unemotional reality-driven energy plan that ensures that we are not dependent on oil or natural gas imports from anyone, while working…
